// A collaborative effort exploring postcolonial critique through ice cave piano, fiery drum machine excursions, poetry infused with hymnic vocoding and a hauntingly beautiful baptismal flood of synths.
// LONE WOLF RUNNER is the result of Søren Gemmer’s electro-acoustic composition for Jessie Kleemann’s performance piece presented during the Fall of 2023 at the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen. The performance series garnered significant attention and was nominated as Art Event of the Year by AICA Association of Danish Art Critics. TRACK by TRACK
1. Running Time
Roars heard from the bellows as the lone wolf enters at high pace. The Greenlandic language set against hymnic vocoding in this compelling album opener.
2. Lone Wolf Runner
The wolf unleashed. Ice cave piano timbres set on top of a steady bell-like pulse accelerating gently and bold percussive gestures glitched out.
3. Tide
Dark, submarine piano movements submersed in cold waters as a choir of huskies make themselves heard across the ice. The dark intervals thrusting themselves upon land, becoming melody.
4. Nu (“Now”)
A poetic choral piece with shimmering chords and subtle sonic beams. A female main character facing unknown challenges in the midst of unruly nature. Jessie Kleemann’s poetic writing at it’s finest in this abstract arctic pastoral.
5. The Bird
Birdsong-like piano pulsations, crystalline, yet warm and melodic. An analog synth soars above as the tempo rises, seemingly towards infinity or towards The Skin….
6. The Skin
Unhinged bone rattling experimental electronic drum machine antics. The Skin is Lone Wolf Runner at it’s most playfully dancelike and a centerpiece of the album.
7. Seals Singing Their Jaws Off / 8. The Minotaur
A poet speaking truth to power followed by an enigmatic piece of melodic piano reflection. One can hear whistling, if one listens closely.
9. Baptism
This piece is Lone Wolf Runner’s transdimensional meeting at it’s core; a the unification of the howling wolf and the baptismal flood of synths, distorted and thrown upon the ceiling of an ice cathedral, nature and culture merged through sonic alchemy.
10. The Dancer
Dancing on strings through strife.
11. Inngili
Inngili (“The Angel”) is a choral piece cocooning from time stretched strings of sound and based on Jessie Kleemann’s playful poem of the same name from the collection Arhkticos Doloros.
12. Radiant
A swelling deep complex beat forcefully powering a string of slow radiant chordal waves, rich in singing overtones.
13. Marble
Ever heard a seal swallowing up a Chopin-esque melodic piano cadenza? Here’s your chance.
14. Feet
The sound of Lone Wolf Runner as it came to it’s conclusion as a performance series on The Sculpture Street at Statens Museum for Kunst.
